Each year circa 300 million tonnes of plastic waste is produced– that’s nearly the same weight as the entire world population. It’s time to act and we all have a responsibility to our environment – Predictions show that unless something is done to reduce this, we will have created four times as much plastic waste by 2050. We are horrified to learn that much of this plastic ends up in our oceans and this is killing marine life. There are many initiatives to raise awareness of the crisis and to encourage consumers to take responsibility, think and act on ocean clean-up operations. 

But what is done with the recovered plastic?

In a plastic pollution crisis, there is a design innovation – An ergonomic bucket chair made 100% entirely from recycled fishing nets, rope and plastic waste collected from the ocean, that has been cleaned and manufactured into this beautiful and functional piece. Each chair contains 3.5kg of recycled plastic, the legs are also FSC certified hardwood and what’s more the DuraOcean Chair can also be recycled at the end of its life, setting the benchmark for sustainable material usage and design.
